Khatz from the AJAAT fame has written up an excellent guide on how to finally learn to read a newspaper in a foreign language. I now quote him directly:

Simple Version

  1. Get a newspaper written in your target language
  2. Pick out a headline
  3. Look up and learn any words you don’t know in the headline
  4. Stop for now
  5. Repeat from (1) tomorrow

Now, with nobody’s permission in particular, I would like to mix that delicious formula with this savvy quote from a savvy man:

“Most people overestimate what they can do in one year and underestimate what they can do in ten years.”
– Bill Gates

In for the long run, I say. In for the long run.
